Home learning gives children the opportunity to reflect on, consolidate and apply learning. It also gives parents the opportunity to get involved and get a really good understanding of the learning that takes place in school. All of this can have a positive effect on progress and helps children to be responsible for their own learning; an important skill for their future.
Regular weekly home learning is a mixture of phonics/spelling, reading and times tables practice. We have online reading records for you to record home reading. We also have an app for timetables and we use Tapestry to send home spellings. Spellings are tested at an age appropriate level.
In addition to this we have a termly home learning menu for each class which offers children the choice of a variety of exciting and creative tasks including outdoor learning, arts and crafts, written activities etc linked to learning in school. This is something that parents often like to get involved with as it give opportunities to really discuss and explore learning. The children earn M Bucks for the tasks they complete which can be exchanged in the class shop. The class shop is set up at the beginning of the year - the children decide with their teacher what rewards they want to work for and what things are worth in exchange which always makes for an interesting discussion!
If you need any support with home learning please speak to your child’s teacher.. Each class teacher has an email address as follows or you can contact them via the school office.
